Mr. McMahon def. John Cena in a No Disqualification Handicap Gauntlet Match
It took deception, dishonesty and, oh, about five or so Superstars, but Mr. McMahon finally managed to beat John Cena. The Chairman, hoping to prove a point to his WrestleMania rival Bret Hart, had arranged a match between himself and Cena. Perhaps realizing the odds stacked against him, Mr. McMahon changed the rules of engagement, setting up a Gauntlet-Style bout.
Cena’s first hurdle was Vladimir Kozlov followed by Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre, Jack Swagger and a conflicted Mark Henry. When none of these Superstars managed to wear down Cena enough, The Chairman stipulated that the bout was now a No Disqualification Match. After failing to enlist The World’s Strongest Man to nail Cena with the ring bell, WWE Champion Batista entered the fray and laid out Henry. Before The Chairman could clock Cena with the bell, though, Kofi Kingston ran out for the save. Batista seemed prepared as he attacked Kingston and even battled Cena at that point.
With Cena incapacitated, his WrestleMania foe took advantage and Batista Bombed the exhausted Superstar in the ring. Mr. McMahon then quickly pinned him for the win.
Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase def. Randy Orton
Randy Orton couldn’t wait. As his opponents in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase, made their way to the ring, their ringleader-turned-rival attacked, leaving the duo dazed before the bout even started. The ambush proved reminiscent of the punishment The Viper dished out to his protιgιs the week prior.
The Viper, however, would need more than a surprise strike to defeat the two. DiBiase managed to pin the former mentor for an especially satisfying victory. Afterward, Rhodes joined in the fun, also pummeling the impaired Orton with glee.
John Cena confronted WWE Champion Batista There was one place not to be on Monday night: Between two of the biggest, baddest Superstars WWE has ever known. After getting popped last week with a low blow from WWE Champion Batista, John Cena called out The Animal. Accompanied by a security detail, Batista confronted his WrestleMania rival, telling him that the security was to ensure he doesn’t decimate Cena like he did the week before.
The men traded barbs before The Animal told Cena that he attacked him because he feels cheated, cheated that it is Cena who has become the “face of WWE.” While the two men started in WWE at the same time, Cena has emerged the more high-profile Superstar, and now Batista was going to rectify that on The Grandest Stage of Them All, WrestleMania. The WWE Champion’s tirade left Cena in a condition he rarely finds himself: Speechless.
Randy Orton def. Ted DiBiase by Disqualification The axis of evil is officially kaput. At WWE Elimination Chamber, when Ted DiBiase nailed Randy Orton in the head with a lead pipe, the Legacy ringleader appeared to forgive the “accident.” When the two teamed with Legacy henchman Cody Rhodes, however, The Viper struck, heading off a devious attack from his followers, leaving his followers motionless both in and out of the ring.
Now that all the cards are on the table, there’s no more “accidents” waiting to happen. As Orton battled DiBiase in singles action, Rhodes shot in to help his friend and partner. The save, however, disqualified DiBiase. While The Viper momentarily savored the victory, he found himself on his heels when his former pupils attacked him after the match. After suffering a series of boots to the torso, Orton managed to flip the script on Rhodes & DiBiase, who fled from the ring.
The next movie from WWE Studios is titled "Big Red" and will start filming in New Orleans soon. Ed Harris and Amy Madigan will star in the film along with WWE star Randy Orton. The film is based in the mid-1960s and is built around a smart 12-year-old boy whose teacher makes him work with a special outcast on a project. The outcast ends up having a confrontation with a bully, whose father is played by Orton. Orton's character tries to get Harris fired from his job as a teacher. Madigan plays the school principal.
In addition to starting work on a new WWE film starring Randy Orton. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the company will start work on a higher-budget film ($10 million budget) for a theatrical release starring Batista called "Killer Karma." Scheduled to start filming after WrestleMania, it focuses on a guy being released from prison who tries to get his life in order and fate, friends and enemies constantly get in his way.
This week Dave Batista moved up to the #3 spot, John Cena moved down to the #4 spot, Randy Orton moved down to the #10 spot, and Cody Rhodes moved down to the #16 spot.
Thanks to Mr. McMahon, The Animal was able to step in the ring with John Cena moments after he won the WWE Championship in the Elimination Chamber. Needless to say, Batista left with the title.
